The Recap:
We had three baptisms this week! There just aren’t too many songs about baptism – I looked and unless I missed them, that area of Christian worship is lacking musically. Given that, this week’s musical theme was: SALVATION and our response! (Looking at the authors…I guess it was a Baloche, Brown, and Houston week too!)
We also tried some new things this week (thanks to some suggestions gleaned from fellow worship leaders on Twitter!). At about 10-minutes before service start time, we faded the CD and went to live walk-in music. We also eliminated the announcement portion of our service.
Anyway, the recap deets:
We did Hosanna as an instrumental and then transitioned to Salvation is Here with the vocals. Salvation is Here was a new one for us and I think it went great! We will be doing it on the 6th.
Because of Your Love is a great call to worship! I love the way it reminds the worshiper of the means by which we worship – through Christ’s sacrificial, saving love for us on the Cross. Fun Fact: Baloche sings “yeah” on the intro…we sing “Praise Him”, because we paired it with “Praise Him, Praise Him at one time in the past”…it stuck.
We had baptisms at this point in the service – which ROCKED. We actually had video testimonies for the first time – slight tech challenge, but very effective! [Bill - these were so cool...thank you for your ministry!.]
We transitioned to Our God Saves after a prayer. This song is a staple at East Valley – love it!
The Stand was a new one this week (we had sung the chorus last week as a tag to another song). I think it went well – we started with the chorus (to refresh folk’s memories!) and then went on with the song as written. I love the power of this song: Jesus’ sacrifice and our response.
Our song of response was the Passion version of Take My Life and Let It Be. I Love the arrangement and the chorus – singing the verses (even though they are lyrically deep) can be rote because of the tempo and melody [please don't take this the wrong way, this can happen on any song]…adding a declarative chorus like “Here am I, all of me. Take my life, it’s all for thee” is HUGE.
What a BLESSED morning!
