The Recap:
Another wonderful morning! It was our second week using the revised format of Walk-in music and no verbal announcements (we project them during the walk-in, greeting time, and post-service.) So far, so good. Getting good comments! Still a few kinks, but over all – it’s a good change.
Beautiful One and Indescribable are familiar songs and always go well musically and I know people appreciate the lyrical content of these songs. We had our greeting & encouragement time between the two songs. I so love and appreciate out greeting time. I think I have written about this before, but its so cool to see people all over the place interacting! We seemed to have quite a few guests this week, which was great!
The Power of the Cross was new this week. Our church hosted a conference prayer gathering last Tuesday. Our church admin led worship at the meeting and intro’d this song at the meeting [Letitia!]. I had planned the setlist; but, when I got an email from Pastor John asking if I’d heard the song before and gave it a listen…I had to revise! This song has powerful lyrics and really prepared hearts for Communion. WL’s, if you’re not familiar with this modern hymn, give it a listen (this is a live version.) I need to spend more time with the Getty’s and Townend’s stuff!
I transitioned from Indescribable to Power of the Cross, saying that sometimes we inadvertently separate the “Indescribable God” we sing about and the “Jesus/Savior” we sing about – without focusing on the fact that the same God who created the universe and is all powerful is the SAME person who died for our sins and lives in our hearts. I think it was a good reminder as we sang Power of the Cross (I know it was for me).
Typically, during Communion, we have piano playing in the background as the elements are passed. This week, I played the guitar and sang two songs that are new for EVC (we’ll plug them in at some point in the future). Remembrance is from Matt Redman’s new CD and is a wonderful song for Communion. There are some great songs on this CD and he has the charts/song stories posted on his site! He Is Lord is another powerful and declarative modern hymn from Hillsong.
Our song of response was Revelation Song. This was the first time for it in the AM service (we sang it at our last evening Communion Service). It’s dripping with powerful lyrics – it went well and we will do again. Song story here.
