The Recap:

Great service today.  It had been a while since we did Glory to God Forever, so I opted to use it as the walk-in song.  We will probably kick off with it in the main set next week.

People are really becoming familiar with Desert Song – I can see in their faces that they have connected with it.  I started the set reading  Psalm 57:7-11 and commented how David wrote it while he was hiding from Saul – from a place of adversity.  Even in his fear and stress, he knew God was in control, loved him, and was worthy of praise.  We followed Desert Song with Doug Field’s update of It Is Well.  The revised chorus is powerful and, for me, really expounds upon the place from which Horatio Spafford wrote the hymn [hymn story]:

It is well It is well Through the storm I am held
It is well It is well With my soul
It is well it is well. God has won Christ prevailed
It is well it is well With my soul

Our song of response, after we shared Communion, was How Great is the Love, from Paul Baloche’s newest album.  A HUGE proclamation of gratitude sung to Jesus for His love.  If you are not doing this song – DO IT!  Singing “The weight of the cross / The curse of our shame / You carried it all and rose from the grave” after Communion was powerful.

Laura and I sang the offertory song today – Andrew Peterson’s All Things New, from his Resurrection Letters, Vol. 2 album.  Great song!  I read somewhere that in concert Peterson displays Ephesians 5:14, Isaiah 65:17, 2 Corinthians 5:17, and Revelation 21:5 during the song – so I plugged those into the PowerPoint and had them displayed as we sang.

Pastor John spoke on Contentment from Philippians 4:10-13.  For me, it was the “two-punch” from last week’s message on worry…it’s where I’m at right now I guess.

Hope your Sunday was great!
