Observations…by a dependent workman. What does that mean?

Workman?

It relates to 2 Timothy 2:15, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

We traditionally associate the word “workman” with someone’s job. To me, this verse really goes beyond that narrow definition and represents everything in life. My heart’s desire is to be found (most importantly by God, but also by others) as someone who is faithful to the Lord in all that I do; whether it is at home, work, church, with friends, whatever.

This blog is basically just my experiences in every day life…through the eyes of someone who is striving to be a “workman” who is approved by the Lord.

Dependent?

Well, I would be pretty arrogant if I said that I could even come close to being approved by GOD on my own. It is only through Him that I can be approved by Him.  In fact, most of my friends & family could confirm that I am not even close on my best day!

So why write this blog?

Well, I blogged about that!

About me?

I’m someone dependently trying to live a Romans 12:1 / 2 Timothy 2:15 / Colossians 3:17-kinda life…sharing my observations along the way.  That is a fancy way for saying I am someone whose life has been changed by Christ and this is a forum for sharing my experiences as I try to live a life that brings Him glory and honor.

I’m human…so expect some interesting insights!  Music is HUGE in my life, so many posts are my thoughts and reactions to the music I happen to be listening to – or just simply what happens to be going on in my life.

I am not a schooled theologian – in the sense that I have been through seminary (although I strongly believe that everyone who follows Christ MUST be a theologian – how can we really worship God unless we study and know about Him.)  That said, my posts are based on my study of God’s word (first) and other sound reference materials (second.)  I am a teachable person and certainly welcome any comments and Godly counsel on any theological errors I may inadvertently make on my posts.

I work at an independent, nonprofit research institute and am the worship leader at East Valley Church in San Jose, CA.  My wife and I have been married for 22 years and we are in the process of adopting at least two children this year (woohoo!!).

My Header?

My header was designed by Russ Hutto.  Check him out – great blogger and graphic artist.

Scripture references from above:

Rom 12:1 “…God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.” [The Message]

2 Tim 2:15 “Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won’t be ashamed of, laying out the truth plain and simple.” [The Message]

Col 3:17 ” Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.” [The Message]

BTW, my header photo is one my wife took in Glacier National Park, MT.  It is Lake McDonald – taken near the Apgar Village.  It is special because we have enjoyed good times together there and also with my family (especially my mom, who is now in Heaven.)
