crossGood Friday was six weeks ago today – I pray that each day (not just a single Friday each year) would be a profound reminder of what Christ accomplished on that Wonderful Cross (and the following SUNDAY)…a blessed Déjà vu!

I took this picture a few months ago as I was running some errands – I was at a stoplight and it just caught my eye. Now, every time I pass it, one of my favorite Vicky Beeching songs – The Wonder of the Cross – comes to mind.

Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all!

So on the Christian liturgical calendar, today (Thursday, 5/21) commemorates the bodily Ascension of Jesus into heaven.

From Acts chapter one:

7He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

9After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

10They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Christ is risen!  Has ascended!  Christ will come again!

base-image-wcHE IS RISEN!!! What a celebratory service for rejoicing in and giving glory to our Risen Savior!

We opened the service with our choir singing the powerful song: They Could Not. Man, I love them – they are so fun to serve with! They are “the few and the humble!” I get chills looking into their faces while directing them – close to tears at times. How they minister to me!  (They probably think I am weird as I make faces at them while directing!)

Nancy and I did the offertory: One Solitary Life.  She played the piano and I read the poem.

Worship Set List:

  • Christ Arose [Lowry (Don Chapman arrangement)]
  • Celebrate, Jesus Celebrate [Oliver]
  • All the Earth Will Sing Your Praises [Baloche – with newer second verse added]
  • Holy is the Lord [Tomlin/Giglio]
  • Closer: Sing to the King! [Foote/Home]

He is Risen!  He is Risen Indeed!

One of the comments on this YouTube page:

“This song, cranked up as loud as possible, is how my family has woken up at daybreak every Easter Sunday morning for the past 14 years.”

How cool is that!  I think I’ll institute that this year!
