bibleBible In 90 Days – Day 20

Reading: 1 Samuel 2:30 – 1 Samuel 15:35

Take Away(s):

  • Intercessor. In 2:25, Eli rhetorically asks his sons about who will intercede for a man who sins against the Lord.  Praise God, we have an intercessor – the Holy Spirit!
  • Ministering but now knowing. It’s interesting the distinction seen between 3:1 ans 3:7. In verse one, we see Samuel ministered before the Lord; but in verse seven, we see that he did not know the Lord.
  • Words falling to the ground. Interesting phrase in 3:19.  My study bible says that everything that Samuel spoke was fulfilled.  His words had credibility as a prophet of God.
  • Obedience vs. Sacrifice. Verse 15:22 boils it down to what God actual desires from the Israelites…and from us.  God is God and doesn’t really have “needs” as we would understand them.  What he desires is our obedience.  As I read this, my first impression is that God needed the stuff that was being sacrificed; but it was actually more about their obedience to His commands.  In our day, how easy it is to think that we can “give” our way to pleasing God.  Really, when we understand giving, it is more an obedience thing…

Bible In 90 Days – Day 21

Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1 – 1 Samuel 28:19

Take Away(s):

  • Whoa. It’s interesting the reaction that the people in Bethlehem had when Samuel arrived in 16:4 – they trembled.  I wouldn’t think that any pastors or leaders should command this type of reaction, but we (as those being lead) should respect them in the Lord.  Respect, not idolize.
  • It’s a heart thing! How challenging this verse is, as we seek to be imitators of God (attempt…we’ll never get there).  We so readily judge from the outside in, instead of doing what God does – looking at the heart and not the outward appearance.  God, help me in this area.
  • Evil Spirit from the Lord. In 16:14, we read that an evil spirit from the Lord entered Saul.  God is in control of all things!
  • Remember in Whose name you come! Can you imagine how David felt when he made the statement, “You come against me with a sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, who you have defied.”?  The confidence and authority he exuded.  I’m sure Goliath thought nothing of this, but that didn’t dash David’s confidence in God.  How often I forget that the same God that David declared in his statement is living inside of me and just as powerful.  God, I believe…help me in my unbelief.

Bible In 90 Days – Day 22

Reading: 1 Samuel 28:20 – 2 Samuel 12:10

Take Away(s):

  • David Remembered. As David became distressed about being stoned by the men in 30:6, I’m sure he recalled and remembered how faithful god had been in his life.  How quickly I forget the faithfulness of God when times get “hard” or I am distressed.
  • Undignified! David was more concerned with worshiping God than what others thought – even in his Kingly position (6:22).  He knew Who was his King and God and desired to worship Him with abandon.  I pray that I always worship my amazing God with thoughtful abandon.  God is not a chaotic God, so even in my undignified worship, He deserves “orderly” unorderly worship! HA!

Bible In 90 Days – Day 23

Reading: 2 Samuel 12:11 – 2 Samuel 22:18

Take Away(s):

  • Strategic. David promotes the person that we probably would not have (Amasa) – and demotes the other (Joab).  Here we see David’s strategic leadership in action.
  • Six finger on each hand…six toes on each foot. 21:20…cool! Nuf said!

Bible In 90 Days – Day 24

Reading: 2 Samuel 22:19 – 1 Kings 7:37

Take Away(s):

  • Spacious place. 22:20. I love the language here…spacious is a place where we are free and not confined or stressed.  This is where our awesome God takes us.  It may not be physically the place where we find ourselves, but spiritually, we can rest assured that God is in control of ALL our circumstances and situations.
  • Perfection. Tie verse 22:31 to 22:20…what an awesome and providential God!
  • Frozen. Can you imagine having a commitment like Eleazar.  So committed that our stance for the Lord is a place we find ourselves frozen in!  God, through the power of the Holy Spirit I pray I have this frozen commitment for You!
