The Year That Was 2009

January 4, 2010 — Leave a comment

So I considered not writing one of these posts…but alas, here it goes:

Highs*

  • Celebrated 22 years of being married to my best friend! Each year it gets better and better, and I thank God for blessing me with such a special woman.
  • Of all the books that I read last year (besides the Bible), Francis Chan’s Crazy Love was a highlight [I think I actually ended up reading it 3 times]. It really refined my heart – not that I’m perfect now…  The cool thing was that I had the opportunity to teach through the book during the spring quarter of Sunday School at church.   I pray that my understanding of God’s amazing, extravagant, and crazy love continues to grow and that I respond in a way that brings glory to Him.
  • I started blogging! It’s been a great experience.  In April, I started posting the Sunday service setlist from church and, as a result, I’ve actually connected with some great worship leaders – great for ideas and encouragement.
  • The other cool awesome reading that I did was reading through the Bible in 90 days – part of the Bible in 90 Days program we did at church. I had considered starting this program several years ago, but thought it was too hard. It was some of the most intense reading I’d ever done and all I can say is WOW! God spoke to me in so many ways through His word during those 90 days. I challenged myself to blog about each day’s reading – with the premise that God’s word does not return void and that He would have something for me each day as I read…68 posts later, He definitely did.
  • Karen and I inched closer in our journey to become adoptive parents – something that we believe God has called us to. We connected with a great local agency, went through a bunch of training, and were right on the cusp of foster/adopting three kids.  See below…

Lows*

  • Can’t really say much, but our foster/adopt didn’t happen.  We were broken and our Christmas was A LOT different than we’d expected; but we know that God is totally in control and that we are in the center of His will.  We are back in the search process.  I believe God has a purpose for everything and this really brought Karen and I even closer as a couple and as surely prepared us to be parents.  She is going to be an amazing mommy!
  • I planned out a choir program for church, but it ended up not working out.  Sometimes making a wise choice is hard and canceling the program was tough.  It was for the best, but I was still pretty bummed.

Looking forward to all that 2010 holds!

*I’m generally a positive person, so these
are “high/lows” and not “best/worst”.
