I overnighted in San Antonio for a quick, Tuesday AM meeting and shot this on my run this morning. The first time I’ve been able to shoot a picture of the Alamo without tons of other people in the shot!

Training Journal – 3/12/13:

  • Current plan: Big Sur Marathon Training Plan – W12/D2
  • Today’s session: 5 mile easy run @ 8:27-9:28 pace
  • Comments: I did a 6.42 @ 8:46 on a route I planned that went along the Riverwalk and through some of the King William Historic District. The homes in that area looked pretty nice, though it was dark when I went through. Nearly scared a fellow runner to death as I passed him…he was wearing headphones with the music blasting and didn’t hear my “on your left” warning…DUDE!

Austin 20

I’m on a quick trip to Austin (not for SBSX) and did my planned 20-miler as an out & back/loop around Lady Bird Lake.

I’m sure there are some nice views & sights; but, at that early hour, I missed them. I also missed the thunderstorms – they subsided by the time I left the hotel!

Training Journal – 3/10/13:

  • Current plan: Big Sur Marathon Training Plan – W11/D7
  • Today’s session:20 mile long run @ 8:32-9:49 pace
  • Comments: I did a 20.13 @ 9:03
  • Weekly mileage: Running: 51.56 / Bicycling: 16.52

I’s Forest Gump

I got this in my Inbox today…

OK, I’m not completely like Mr. Gump. Just partially in the sense that, once I started running, I haven’t stopped and have no plans to…ya know, like he did…

Where’s my box of chocolates Swedish Fish!

Training Journal – 3/8/13:

  • Current plan: Big Sur Marathon Training Plan – W11/D5
  • Today’s session: 10 mile easy run @ 8:27-9:28 pace
  • Comments: I did 10.3 @ 8:36
  • Current plan: Big Sur Marathon Training Plan – W11/D3
  • Today’s session: 10 mile easy run @ 8:27-9:28 pace
  • Comments: I did 10.3 @ 8:26 in my new Kinvara 3s. There was a nice bit of rain on miles 5 & 6 otherwise, just wet pavement and a few ‘found’ puddles…FUN!

A while back, I read about StrideBox on a blog and forgot about it until I saw a video review of it last week while surfing YouTube during lunch. StrideBox is basically a goodie/sampler box of running “accessories, nutritional products, and apparel” that you get each month for a $15 subscription.

Anyway, I signed up last week and made it just in time to get the March edition in yesterday’s mail!

As you can see, the box contained a great sampling of products (some of which I already use/like) and I’ll definitely use/try everything included – I’ll even give the Wrist Wallet a try…I KNOW I’ll devour the Picky Bar, being a Picky Club‘er already.

Again, the monthly subscription is $15 and, by my calculation, this month’s sampling total about $29 – a pretty good deal.

StrideBox #1 (vMarch 2013) was a winner – can’t wait for April.  You can sign up for your monthly StrideBox here!

Training Journal – 3/5/13:

  • Current plan: Big Sur Marathon Training Plan – W11/D2
  • Today’s session: 5 mile easy run @ 8:27-9:28 pace
  • Comments: I did 5.36 @ 8:14.  First run in my new Saucony Type A5s – liked ’em a lot!

Gonna unbox some new kicks on Tuesday and Wednesday!

New Saucony Type A5s on Tuesday and Kinvara 3s on Wednesday. The A5s are new for me (figured I’d try a lighter shoe) and these are my fifth pair of Kinvara 3s (their my old faithful/favorite road shoe with ~1200+ miles so far across 4 pair).

Training Journal – 3/3/13:

  • Current plan: Big Sur Marathon Training Plan – W10/D7
  • Today’s session:19 mile long run @ 8:32-9:49 pace
  • Comments: I did a 19.33 @ 8:42 pace on my Big Sur Hurricane Point sim route (sim at about mile 10, just like the BSIM course.). Today was supposed to be a long slow run, but it ended up being a pacing sim…which went well and according to plan.
  • Weekly mileage: Running: 61.9 / Bicycling: 0

February was another great month of training!  Road running pretty much dominated the mix at 75%, with trail running at 8%, and bicycling at 17%.  Our lives are still churning after my Father-in-law’s passing last December and my Mother-in-Law had some health issues this month as well.  Running seems to be my therapy right now.

The high point of the training month was gritting out a new half marathon PR (1:44:45) at the KP San Francisco Half Marathon by 2:36 – BOOYAH!

As far as new equipment, none this month – though I did try the lemon flavor of GU Chomps and like them.

With Big Sur less than two months away, I’ve started some focused training (including a Hurricane Point sim) and have made some pacing goal refinements (using a great BSIM-specific spreadsheet from mymarathonpace.com.)

Anyway, here are the stats for the month that was February 2013:
