Today’s post prompt on “The Daily Post at WordPress.com” was:
Share a story about a memorable job interview
My Answer
Quite a few years ago, I got a call from a headhunter looking to fill a job – they actually were calling a number of people where I worked as they had quite a few openings. They weren’t telling all of us…but we still figured it out. I ended up finagling the company’s name out of the person (hey, I’m not stupid!) and said I’d interview for the position.
I’m sure that process happens quite often – though for me it was a first.
On to the memorable part…
[queue Bond-like music]
I was told to go to a certain hotel at a certain time on a certain date and a meet certain person…OK, the headhunter I talked to would meet me in the lobby. At that time, she would conduct a pre-interview and then I would be interviewed by representatives from the hiring company.
I arrived early, only to see several of my friends sitting in different parts of the large lobby. We gave each other “knowing” nods but didn’t speak… “hmm, this could be part of the test.”
Eventually, the headhunter made her way to me, we chatted, and I headed up to the hotel suite for the company interview.
[knock, knock]
[Door opens. Quick once-over by the door-opener]
“Umm. Yeah. I’m here for the interview?”
[brief pause and glance past me by door-opener]
“Yeah. C’mon in.”
[aaaand fade Bond-like music]
I was pretty disappointed that there wasn’t a secret handshake or verbal “coo-coo” bird call signaling or validating my “in the know” reason for knocking at the door…
Anyway, I got the job [score!] and have never forgotten the interview…
So, what’s your most memorable job interview
