April 2012 Run Stats

May 2, 2012 — Leave a comment

April was my eighth month as a runner and was full of lessons and training program refinements – to include experimenting with my diet (caloric intake/weight maintenance & pre-race carb loading) and the completion of my first half marathon!. It’s weird to think that my first Couch-to-5K workout last September was a grueling 1.53 mile run/walk at a 14.52 mile pace and last Sunday I did 13.1 at an 8:11 pace. I’m having fun and continue to learn.

Anyway, here are the stats for the month that was April 2012:

Mileage:

  • Total: 153.95 [+11.98 from Mar]
  • Shortest run: 2.6 [-.54 from Mar, though this was a taper day]
  • Longest run: 14 [+.88 from Mar]

Pace:

  • Overall Avg: 8:42 [-:15 from Mar]
  • Slowest Avg: 9:16 [-:39 from Mar]
  • Fastest Avg: 8:11 [+:28 from Mar, but this was on my half!]

Total Running Time:

  • 22.36 hours or 1342 minutes [+1:10 from Mar]

Training Program(s):

  • Most of the month I followed plan I made using a combination of the Runner’s World Smart Coach app with pace adjustments using the McMillan Running Calculator: Weekly mileage: 26-30 miles a week – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Weekday sessions ranged in distance from 5 to 8 miles, with the weekend session being the “long run” day at 10 to 14 miles. The plan integrated Easy Runs, Tempo Runs, Speed Runs, and hill workouts.

Caloric Stats:

  • Consumed: 98,246 [+8,.850 from Mar]
  • Burned: 18,505 [+1,811 from Mar]

Races Completed:

  • 4/15: Presidio 10 (10 Mile) [report]
    • Time: 1:22:27 / 8:14 pace
    • Placed:
      • Overall: 280/1014
      • Men: 192/436
      • Age Bracket: 13/42
  • 4/29: Pleasanton Half Marathon [report]
    • Time: 1:47:21 / 8:11pace
    • Placed:
      • Overall: 193/1664
      • Men: 148/542
      • Age Bracket: 26/76

Upcoming Run(s):

GIDDY-UP!

Training Journal – 5/2/I12:

  • Current plan: Half-marathon program: taper week, part deux
  • Today’s session: 3 mile easy run
  • Comments: Another cool morning (the “brrrr” kind.) Still a bit stiff from last Sunday, but I loosened up. I did 4 miles @ 8:28.
