My dad would have been 80 today.
Knowing my dad, if I’d been able to share today with him (which I may not have been able to, since he lived in a different state and I attended a conference this week), he would have probably looked about the same and been in as good of shape as he was the last time I saw him (at 77) – he always seemed to be in better shape than the rest of us. I would have hoped that he would have spent today doing something he enjoyed, celebrating this milestone with the people he loved and who loved him; but honestly, knowing my dad, he probably would have worked at least part of the day (hopfully not) and preferred a quiet evening with his family. He would have probably treated today like any other day – except for maybe requesting pineapple upside-down cake, which was his favorite.
My dad wasn’t a talker (I think I am becoming more and more like him with time); so if we had spoken today, our phone call would have been probably been somewhat short – but I do know it would have ended with:
Happy birthday dad
Thank you mi hijo
I love you dad
I love you too mi hijo
I miss you dad
I miss you too mi hijo
