Perfected Motion…Responsive and Expectant Running

Perfected Motion. Just following the theme from two posts last week (Perfect Posture…AWE & Perfect Assurance…From Our Perfecter).  I thought would share this song from another artist I like who has great lyrics and is generally not mainstream, Jason Morant (check him out).

I think we’ve all had those days when we’ve said, “Take me home Lord!  I just can’t take it anymore!” – I know I have.  At it’s core, that’s a pretty selfish and arrogant statement if you think about it.  We’re saying to God, “I know best and deserve my way.  So God, if life get’s hard (yes, the one that I’ve given you divine control of), the best resolution would be to just take me Home in advance of Your perfect plan and will.”  Um, not too compelling of an argument before the Sovereign, all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords!

Life is hard, rough, scary, sad, etc. before and after we decide to give our life to Christ.  There isn’t a promise in the Bible, that says “accepteth Christ and thy life willith be rosey” (my best effort and King James talk).  The fact is, Jesus promised His Disciples (and us) that we would have trouble:

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

BTW, aren’t you glad he didn’t end with “trouble” or even “Take Heart!”  NO, He has overcome; and by His victory, so have we (not can…have overcome, through the power of the Holy Spirit)!

The reality is that we are in a race…and our running must be:

  • Responsive: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12: 1-3
  • Expectant: “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.” 2 Peter 3:13-14

I really appreciate how the lyrics of this song speak from a heart that is tired; yet aware of the truth of the race called LIFE IN CHRIST: a heart that has been transformed, possessing a redefined purpose, living…running for Christ.

Father, may it be so in me…through the power of Your Holy Spirit.

I WILL RUN

How long will it be until we are standing face to face
How long will it be until I behold that wondrous place
My eyes will be fixed on You and my heart will have found its home
Until then I will run this race and will live to make You known

I will run I will run
All my days are Yours
I will run cause You are all
I am living for

I have only You to thank for my soul being transformed
And for all of the times You’d come like a fire to bring me warmth
And for all of the times Your wounded hands would give me strength
For me to continue to run this race to make You known
