So I’ve been on a diet for the last year and blogged about it a few weeks ago. Anyway, I’ve lost about 75 pounds and, well, people are noticing…
I was in the cafeteria today getting my lunch (they have an AMAZING salad bar where I work) and noticed this woman doing the “round-the-stations” loop that many of us do when we go to a cafeteria and are trying to decide what to eat. She saw me and said, “Let’s see what HE’S eating!”
I was making a salad and joked about how boring my salads were. You see, being a creature of habit, I usually make the same salad: lettuce (of course), chicken breast, celery, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, edamame, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, and light ranch dressing. For excitement, I sometimes swap red and yellow bell peppers.

Anyway, when I got back to my office, I recalled that the Lose It website allows you to see what your “favorite foods” have been for various periods of your daily food logs. So, what is my most “favorite” food I’ve eaten for the past year? To paraphrase the woman from the cafeteria, “What’s HE [been] Eating?”
[insert sound of drum roll]
Yes, my friends – Oatmeal! (we call it porridge at home)
By the numbers, I have pretty much eaten it for breakfast every day for the past year.* I sometimes eat it for dinner too, when I’ve eaten too many calories in a day. Oh, and it’s not just “any” oatmeal! My “go to” packet of morning goodness is only found at Safeway, costs me a mere 100 calories (no milk for me), and is fully portable when & wherever I travel!
Hey, I do get crazy every once in a while and add fruit or even peanut butter – in that case, though, I switch to plain oats! WooHoo!
[queue crickets again]
I guess I knew that I ate oatmeal every day, but seeing it on that report just drove home the fact that yes, I’m boring – 75 pounds lighter – but boring.
Yeah, not a particularly “deep” post today, this just struck me funny…
What is your favorite food lately…or over the past year?
*To be clear, for us, Saturdays are McDonald’s mornings: value meal #1 for me!
Hey – snap! I’ve also lost weight over the past year or so mostly by having oats for breakfast. Mine are more than 100 calories, as I do like to add dried fruit and skimmed milk. In summer it is home made muesli, in winter it is spicy porridge as I also add ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon, and some sugar as for some reason I just need my oats to be sweeter if they’re hot. Oats are great!
Yes – oats do ROCK! Thanks for the comment!
