In November, my wife and I drove the course so I could gather some INTEL.

Maybe it’s just me, but every time I look at my bike training route, I see a well-known, comic strip character who has a pointy-haired boss.

(one of these days I’ll have to detour a bit at the North-end to make the image complete)

Tights

Sported my new bicycling tights on this morning’s ride. It made the ride in 47-degree weather a whole lot better than my recent Ccccold one!  (The winter jersey, full-finger gloves, toe covers, crew socks, and skull cap also helped.)

space!

Actually, this is only the second time I’ve worn tights in my life. The first time was years ago when I played a character named “Psalty” in a kids musical at the church we went to at the time. Not sure how that gig happened…  Sorry, no actual photo of me, that would be too scary.  The photo at right was sniped from the web.

I’ll be stickin’ with the cycling type moving forward…

Cccccold Rider

Note to self after this morning’s ride:

Need to purchase cold weather cycling clothes.

It was cold standing still – add riding to that and you get cccccold!

October was another great month of training – all road running and a return to Monday cycling [a spread of 77% road, 0% trail, and 23% bike.]  October also continued my training program for the Honolulu Marathon in December – taking me through week 12 of the 18-week plan.  I also did three races, squeezing in one while on a business trip to Orlando.

As far as new equipment, I bought another pair of Kinvara 3s (my 4th now), but they are being held in reserve and will probably enter the rotation in mid-November.

As I mentioned above, I did have to travel to Orlando, FL; but kept on schedule, doing 55 miles, including a near-marathon day!

Anyway, here are the stats for the month that was October 2012:

September was a nice, solid month of training – mostly road running (I didn’t hit the trails this month) and bit of cycling [a spread of 73% road, 0% trail, and 27% bike.]  Bike percentage was down this month as I opted to rest after the NorCal Half Marathon (probably a wise decision in the long run.)

September also continued my training program for the Honolulu Marathon in December – taking me through week 8 of the 18-week plan.

As far as new equipment, I bought a bike mount for my iPhone.  It works pretty good, though I did opt for the heavy duty bracket based on reviews I read.  I still wear my Garmin 210 when riding, but also downloaded and have used an app called BikeBrain, which is a product from the company that makes the bike mount and is actually pretty good.

I did have to travel to Bloomington, MN; but kept on schedule, doing my Sunday long run and a 7 miler as well.

Anyway, here are the stats for the month that was September 2012:
