Training Journal – 5/12/13:

  • Current plan: Horseshoe Lake 50K Training Plan
  • Today’s session: 12 mile trail run
  • Comments: I ran 14.5 up in Alum Rock at an 11:46 pace.  Felt great and I’m learning to correctly pace myself on trails vs. road…just in time for next week’s 50K!  I fast walked the final .75 miles as my right knee started bugging me.  It’s fine now, just thought I’d nurse it at the end…  “Dude of the Day” award goes to the dad I saw mountain biking “with” his daughter.  Kicker was, he was pulling her in a bike trailer up/down/along the fire roads at killer pace…doing laps (i know this because I saw him several times as I made my way throughout the park.)
  • Weekly mileage: Running: 20.74 / Bicycling: 0

The stomach flu has summarily kicked my behind the past 48 hours. I cannot remember being this sick – I even violated my “idontbarf” policy.

I’m definitely looking forward to a return to normalcy tomorrow…

Training Journal – 5/5/13:

  • Current plan: Big Sur Marathon Recovery Week (haha) / Horseshoe Lake 50K Training Plan
  • Today’s session: 20 mile trail run
  • Comments: At about mile 15, I did a “systems check” and wasn’t feeling a “20 miler” today, so I only did 18. Today was really about the time running, as I wanted to be out for four hours in prep for my 50K. I was out for 3:38:31 (doing a 12:04 overall pace avg / 11:26 moving pace avg) and did a mix of running, jogging and fast walking. Sheesh, you’d think I’d run a marathon a week ago or something!  I’m hoping a taper week ahead of my 50K will be the difference – I did run 24.15 miles this week after my marathon.  We’ll see!
  • Weekly mileage: Running: 42.26 / Bicycling: 0
  • Current plan: Big Sur Marathon Recovery Week / Horseshoe Lake 50K Training Plan
  • Today’s session: Rest day
  • Comments: Slept in until almost 9! On the list for today: Pancakes, grocery shopping, some gardening, and more rest.

A Quick Aquarium Trip

We made a quick trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium today. Out of all that’s there, it’s the jellies that I could stare at for hours…

  • Comments: I did 6.39 @ 7:43. I guess it turned out to be a speed work day instead…felt good!

Boccardo Peak 360

On my outbound flight last week, I read about the Postcard On The Run app in the Southwest Airlines Magazine. It was free, so I downloaded it and used it while in San Antonio to send my wife a postcard of a picture I took on my morning run.
Pretty cool for $1.49!

  • Comments: Since I did the half marathon on Saturday and a recovery run yesterday, I moved my weekend rest day to today
