Hemmed & Held

Awesome and powerful Creator:
Are we forgotten? Ignored?
Though our heart and man would tell us otherwise: NO!
You hem those who love You in behind and before – perfectly and completely.
Your
strong hand of protection is ever on us and guides us true.
Your right hand holds strong when all else crumbles and fails.
You, and you alone, are stronger than all we face.
Search us, know us, test us, lead us, and comfort us…
…for Your glory.
amen

I hadn’t listened to this song in a bit.  It especially hit me today…

I’m trying something new today by using the poll feature to gauge what people think on a few things.  I may do this each Tuesday for variety in my posts.

If you’d like to clarify your response (though it won’t be necessarily anonymous), feel free to comment below!

Question #1 is based on a forwarded email my wife and I recently received. Continue Reading…

Like most, I take the standard touristy-type photos when I go somewhere.  I think it’s required somewhere – we wouldn’t be good tourists if we didn’t.  That said, I also tend to snap photos of artsy/abstract things, stuff that amuses me, or prompts me to think or appreciate.  (Well, at least I try.)

I was looking through some of the photos I snapped while we were in Monterey last weekend and noticed one from Sunday evening (taken about 9pm):

To most, this photo would seem odd, weird, or a waste of a shot.  To me, it captured a moment to which I could assign a single word to:

“What’s HE Eating?”

January 28, 2011 — 3 Comments

So I’ve been on a diet for the last year and blogged about it a few weeks ago.  Anyway, I’ve lost about 75 pounds and, well, people are noticing…

I was in the cafeteria today getting my lunch (they have an AMAZING salad bar where I work) and noticed this woman doing the “round-the-stations” loop that many of us do when we go to a cafeteria and are trying to decide what to eat.  She saw me and said, “Let’s see what HE’S eating!”

I was making a salad and joked about how boring my salads were.  You see, being a creature of habit, I usually make the same salad: lettuce (of course), chicken breast, celery, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, edamame, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, and light ranch dressing.  For excitement, I sometimes swap red and yellow bell peppers.

Anyway, when I got back to my office, I recalled that the Lose It website allows you to see what your “favorite foods” have been for various periods of your daily food logs.  So, what is my most “favorite” food I’ve eaten for the past year?  To paraphrase the woman from the cafeteria, “What’s HE [been] Eating?”

Desert Island-Worthy Music

January 27, 2011 — 2 Comments

Yesterday, the post prompt on “The Daily Post at WordPress.com” was:

If stranded on a desert island, and could only bring one music album with you, which would it be? What is it about this music that never gets old for you?

My answer:

So there are tons* of albums in my collection, which is by no means extensive nor “complete” in the minds of most music lovers.  I’m sure I lack many “classics” that should be part of any music collection.  I also tend to listen to a combined genre – Singer/songwriter & Christian/Gospel – so that is where my selection comes from.

That said, as I considered this question and looked for a single album that I have listened to extensively and connected with over the past year, my desert island-worthy album would be Continue Reading…
