Anchor [great listen]

August 19, 2012 — Leave a comment

this song just keeps resounding in my mind…

Anchor (Beautiful Eulogy featuring Josh Garrels)

Anchor of my soul, You sustain
When I’m in the storm You remain, good to me, good to me

When it’s a quarter past midnight, and the grey skies fade
to black. The waves splash and set me off track. So my vessel
might crash or collapse, when I’m attacked. And start
wrestling in my head with these bad memories from my past.
I’m aware of my guilt, overwhelmed and the smell of my
blood has the sharks that surround me cast under a spell.
They waited for me to fall but when I fell the water got
still. And the blood that was spilled protects me, it’s
the same blood that cleansed me. My only defense against
my nemesis, now I can rest knowing that nothing can come
against me unless the Father gives consent. Evil intentions
will not disturb God’s purposes or interfere so, who
shall I fear if my Anchor is secure? Learning to consider
it pure joy when I’m facing tribulations, praising God
instead of complaining or getting overtaken with bitterness.
Looking at the pages of the book of James and seeing
the ways that God works through the trials to make us more
mature in our faith. It reminds me how desperate I am in
this desert land, thirsty for your mercy and plan while you
give me the strength to stand. You’re my greatest pleasure,
yeah, no matter the weather I face, Lord you never forsake,
my fragile life is safe under your sovereign grace.

We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.

Proverbs 16:9 MSG

Training Journal – 8/11/12:

  • Current plan: Honolulu Marathon Training Plan
  • Today’s session: 10 miles…in the form of the Crystal Springs Trail Run in Woodside.
  • Comments: It was a great first trail run: 10.6 miles, Elevation Gain 1,890′, 1:49:02 @ 10:17/M.  Full report tomorrow.

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you;
he will never let the righteous be shaken.

– Psalm 55:22

I read this today…so many aspects to chew on:

  • Cast: to throw or hurl.  I like this – God doesn’t need us to gingerly surrender.
  • On: so as to be attached to.  Such a departure from the far away or unapproachable description that is so wrongly assigned to God. This is up close and personal!
  • Will: not may or might!
  • Never: a powerful state. We often throw this word around lightly…”you never” or “we never”
  • Shaken: a difficult one. It’s quite possible that my definition of this word is different than God’s.  Maybe I underestimate myself in comparison to what God sees me capable of handling.

Training Journal – 5/31/12:

  • Current plan: Half-marathon program
  • Today’s session: 6 mi Easy Run @ 9:19
  • Comments: I did 6.5 @ 8:32. While running, I thought about the fact that I was supposed to be at a 9:19 pace. I know I need to practice that pace thing, but I get in the mode… Maybe I need to re-assess training pace.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

– Psalm 51:1-2 NIV

…oft requested, yet not reflected in our relationships with others.

Or maybe it’s just guilty me…

Training Journal – 4/18/12:

  • Current plan: Prep for Brazen Racing’s Western Pacific / bridge for half-marathon program
  • Today’s session: 6 mile easy Run @ 9:19
  • Comments: Nice morning – I did 6.6 @ 8:50

These lyrics from Paul Baloche’s new album have been stuck in my head since first hearing them last week…

From My Hope:

Nothing will change if all the plans I make go wrong
Your love stays the same
Your light will guide me through it all
I’m hanging on I’m leaning in to You

amen

Training Journal – 4/11/I12:

  • Current plan: 10-Miler Training
  • Today’s session: 6 mile Run @ with hill repeats in the middle
  • Comments: Another run timed right to avoid the rain!  I did 7.05 @ 9:07 with 2.25 miles of hill repeats (increasing then decreasing slope and distance) sandwiched in the middle.  I wore my Road Runner rain jacket today (thinking it might rain) – I honestly think I need to find an alternative.

Recompense

Recompense is made for the guilty and the shamed
For eternity is gained in the arms of the slain

Oh my soul, praise Him

Da angel guys from God wen see him.

Behold, the Lamb of God
Who takes away our sin
Behold the Lamb of God
The life and light of men
Behold the Lamb of God
Who died and rose again
Behold the Lamb of God who comes
To take away our sin

Broken hearts–behold our broken hearts
Fallen far–we need you
Behold the Lamb of God

Son of God–Emmanuel
Son of Man–we need you
Behold the Lamb
The hope of man
Behold the Lamb of God

In The Bleak Midwinter

December 24, 2011 — Leave a comment

My friend Dave shared this video the other day…simply wonderful. [thanks Dave!]

[YouTube]

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone
Snow had fallen snow on snow snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter long ago

Our God heav’n cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain
Heav’n and earth shall flee away, when He comes to reign
In the bleak midwinter, a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ

Angels and archangels, may have gathered there
Cherubim and seraphim, thronged the air
But His mother only, in her maiden bliss
Worshipped the Beloved, with a kiss

What can I give Him, poor as I am
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb
If I were a wise man, I would do my part
Yet what can I give Him, give my heart

Christina G. Rossetti

Training Journal – 12/24/11:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: Rest
  • Comments: After running by and smelling breakfast at McD’s several times this week I got my fix!

I read this the other day and it hit me that we often see it incorrectly…

We read:

“…giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.”

Colossians 1:12 NIV

We often think:

“…giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has seen all the good things we do, understands the shortfalls we have, and recognizes that we are entitled and deserve to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.”

…forgive us me, oh God.

Training Journal – 12/23/11:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: Easy 5 mile run
  • Comments: Good run!  A brisk 34 degrees out, which gave me a chance to try my new beanie.  I was toasty: cold, shmold!
