Just a few Tweets & a quote that I’ve been chewing on…

Tweets:

Thought: We are right to cherish God’s grace; yet, too often we cheapen it by our actions.  A while back, I posted, “If God meted out grace and mercy to me like i do to others, I’d be doomed.”  That’s something that is constantly on my mind…because I fail regularly.

Thought:  Though not a pastor, I “preach” or proclaim Christ regularly through the living of my life (actions, thoughts, words, etc.)  This tweet got me thinking about how we often live appearance-motivated lives versus being genuine.  We put on the desired/expected front of a “Christian” (which may deviate from the life Jesus actually modeled/called us to) and then expect others to model “us” instead of Jesus.

Quote:

No man can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude without finally getting bewildered as to which may be true.

– Hawthorne

Thought: Ran across this today…kinda tied to the Piper tweet/thought.  God knows the “real” us – even though we fool ourselves and others.  He knows and still loves…and forgives.

As one who works in a office all day, this was enlightening.
Excuse me, gotta go for a walk…

Just How Dangerous Is Sitting All Day?

Sitting down, which most of us do for at least eight hours each day, might be the worst thing we do for our health all day.

Pre-Construction

Last night, a new friend shared some great insights on Jesus’ “houses built on the rock and sand” parable.

He initially shared from Matthew 7, but then directed us to Luke 6 and the language used in that recording of the parable.

I’ve often read this parable with the thought that the lesson here is simply about building on the rock versus the sand – choosing the solid foundation of God’s Word.  Good enough counsel; but, as we read in Luke, it’s more than the pre-construction task of finding the right location/foundation:

A Father’s Charge

April 11, 2011 — Leave a comment

I was reading in 1 Kings this morning and read King David’s charge to Solomon:

When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.

“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go…”

1 Kings 2:1-3 (NIV)

I don’t really recall the final conversation I had with my dad – it probably wasn’t anything too deep.  Exchanges like the one above aren’t the type that you’d typically expect unless one’s death was near.

I’m pretty positive that given the opportunity, my dad would have given me a similarly-themed charge — my mom as well.

I miss both of them something awful … I pray they would be pleased with my life.

The power of photographs is amazing.

They take us places – places we’ve been and wish we could go.

Invoke feelings – feelings we cherished enough to capture using this medium.

They help us recall experiences and people.

They spark memories that we’d consider highs and lows in life.

I know, those are pretty obvious statements – not revelations at all; but I was recently scrolling through the Camera Roll on my iPhone and traveled, felt, recalled, and remembered some recent highs & lows:

  • A ton of “set-up” shots for Facebook & Twitter statuses
  • A relaxing anniversary trip to Monterey

2 Manny I Ron’s

2 Manny I Ron’s

Funny, when I write it out that way it doesn’t seem that bad!  But, that is the state I often find myself in – through no one’s fault but my own!

Oh well…

If you’ve ever wondered, the phrase comes from blacksmiths putting bars of iron in the fire to get them hot enough to work with.  The smith had to be aware of the status of the iron and if he had too many to keep track of, it could be a big problem!

Are you a “2 Manny I Ron’s” -type person too?

Weary

I actually used that word when Karen asked how I was doing this morning.

When I got to work, I plugged it into a cool site I frequent called Visual Thesaurus:

…so many directions to go from that single word…

Matthew 11:28 reads:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest…”

So that’s where I place myself – weary and waiting.
