National Dog Day

August 26, 2015 — Leave a comment

“People can learn a lot from dogs. When someone you love walks through the door, even if it happens 5 times a day, you should go totally insane with joy.” – Denali*

I miss our Annie terribly.

I’m grateful for our new pup, Henry.

I’m challenged by the quote above…

*From the Vimeo description: “The end quote of the film is an excerpt from an incredible story by writer David Dudley that we highly suggest reading: ‘What Our Dogs Teach us about Aging.’ aarp.org/health/healthy-living/info-2014/aging-in-dogs.html [Thank you for saying it so perfectly, David]”

Good one…

Celebrating twenty-seven years of marriage today…WOW!

I DO NOT deserve such a wonderful wife and consider myself totally and completely blessed.

Love you K!

So, So Thankful

I guess there are many things about which I’m thankful; but, without a doubt, what I’m most thankful for is my wonderful wife.

She is kind, genuine, understanding, thoughtful, caring, loving, and so many other things. Most of all, she’s tolerant of me; which, believe me, that involves quite a bit.

20131128-183258.jpgA while back, I saw an interview with triathlete Meredith Kessler who said that she always writes her husband’s initial on her thumb during races. I’ve been doing it ever since…and did this morning for the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot.

So, so thankful for her.

  • Comments: I’ll post a race report later this week; but I PR’d this morning by 1:16, ending up with a 46:39 @ a 7:31 pace and cadence of 98. [Strava]

for Karen…

I wish I had a magic wand
I know you wish one too
I wish I had all answers
The reasons why for you

I wish I had a magic wand
I’d transport me and you
We’d take actions, make decisions
To change what we’ve gone through

Sadly I don’t have one
No means no method for “redo”
Instead I have two ears, two arms
To listen to and comfort you

Listening and comforting
Those actions are not new
But hopefully they remind
I love and am here for you

Two Treats

August 18, 2012 — Leave a comment

I got two treats today: a few of my favorite, pineapple-filled Danish cookies from Solvang and my wife, who came home a day early from a quick trip to Solvang with her parents!

Me happy! Annie too!

Training Journal – 8/18/12:

  • Current plan: Honolulu Marathon Training Plan
  • Today’s session: Rest
  • Comments: Rest…with a bit of yard work sprinkled in…but mostly rest!

Pretty much every evening, my wife and I spend some time on our patio – or as we call it “patio time.” There’s a flock of seagulls (witty reference to 80s band intended) that hangs out at the shopping center near us, most of the time on the roof or circling around the area. Most evenings, they’re pretty vocal; and, if you close your eyes, it’s just like being at the ocean!

Cake Induced Memory

August 15, 2012 — Leave a comment

My wife made a Dump Cake yesterday. This slice of goodness (ok, maybe scoop is a better description) is a wonderful mix of cherry, pineapple, cake, and pecan. Yummy, yummy!

This treat also induces memories of when we were dating…

When we started dating, I worked as a security guard. One post I had for a while was at a construction site – if you’re local, it was when they converted the old outdoor mall setup to what is now Vally Fair Mall. While on the day shift, Karen would bring me lunch when she could, which often included this wonderful desert (even then, I was spoiled!) I think I gained 10 pounds in short order downing this treat.

Every time she makes a Dump Cake, ah the memories!
