Training Journal – 8/2/13:
I think I ate close to the equivalent of 2/3s of my 14-mile, morning run of these at lunch today.
Training Journal – 7/28/13:
I had to stop by the grocery on the way home from work to pick up some sourdough bread for dinner.
I also picked up some “veggies”…
They’re from Whole Foods, so they gotta be good for you, right?
Training Journal – 3/26/13:
Picked these up at the grocery store yesterday – a new favorite…!

While I was in Texas this week, I stopped at a Cracker Barrel for dinner and it turns out they were testing a new “Wholesome Fixin’s” menu – I happened to be in San Marcos, driving between Austin and San Antonio.
I ordered the baked chicken breast dinner, “A baked chicken breast dipped in a buttermilk-blended dressing and coated with seasoned, toasted cornflake crumbs” (330 cals); a side of green beans (60 cals); and cheesy grits (150 cals). The chicken breast was juicy, tasted great, and the cornflake crumbs did give it that “fried” texture. The two sides were good, as usual. No biscuit and gravy, I guess that would defeat the low-cal option. They had other selections for breakfast and lunch/dinner as well…I guess I should have taken a photo of the menu.
All in all, not bad for 540 calories, though I probably wouldn’t get this all the time…it’s hard to pass up some good chicken fried steak, chicken n’ dumplins, or a Momma’s Pancake Breakfast! We don’t have Cracker Barrels where we live and my wife thought I was nuts for trying this…given the fact that I only had one meal to savor!
I’m not sure when this is supposed to be widely available – they don’t even list “Wholesome Fixin’s” on their website at this point.
Training Journal – 3/14/13:
…because I’ve been know to eat my share; but this it too funny.
Training Journal – 2/25/13:
Just a few things from my day…
Instead of doing a road run this morning, I did a 16-mile, trail run. Details: Home (152′) -to- Boccardo Peak (1906′) -to- Alum Rock Park floor (523′) -to- South Rim Trail summit (790′) -to- Home (152′). BOOM! I shot this video up at at Boccardo Peak with my GoPro2:
I need to use my GoPro2 a more…
Took this pano with my iPhone:
Loved this sign at the Garden Center:
Today was my wife’s birthday and she decided to get Psycho Donuts instead of a cake. I went with the S’Mores!
Training Journal – 2/10/13:
I was thinking about this today: for just over three years, I’ve logged my food each day. My wife can confirm: I’m pretty boring when it comes to breakfast and lunches during the week…and I’m fine with it. An oatmeal concoction (my wife calls it “glop”) and grande Americano for breakfast and a salad for lunch (my work as an awesome salad bar.)
Here’s a look at the top 20 food items for the past three years…OK, 19, since craisins are listed twice. All these are either breakfast or lunch items…
space!
Boring, weird, predictable, whatever…I love it and it works for me.
Why 20 19 and not top 10? Because I’m always ready to plug Picky Bars (listed here as “Lauren’s Mega Nuts”) – only the best energy bar on the market! I only discovered them about a year ago, otherwise the number would be higher!
Oh, and I eat two orders of McDonald’s pancakes for breakfast pretty much every Saturday, so the weirdness had crept into the weekend too!

sung to the tune of Gershwin’s “Summertime”:
Wintertime, and the grillin’ is easy…
