Towpath Run

May 9, 2012 — Leave a comment

I’m on a short business trip to Princeton, NJ and squeezed in a quick run this evening after work.

I did an out and back on the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath, starting/finishing at the Millstone Aqueduct entrace at Lake Carnegie.

Weather-wise, it was a slightly muggy, 70 degrees with overcast skies. It had rained the night before and this morning, so the path was damp with occational puddles, but it was a nice run.  This was my first run after three days of post-half marathon rest. I’m still a bit stiff (sitting with some ice as I write this), but it felt good to run.

As is the case, I forgot to take photos along the way, so these are some I shot after the run:

Final run on my trip out to VA/WDC. This morning, I did an out & back to the Pentagon Memorial – another memorial I’d not been to before.

At that hour, I was the only one there. I just walked around,

Went for a nice run this afternoon around a few other areas in DC. A bit cool (45-degrees, with a “feels like” rating of 42), but the sun was a shining!
I wore shorts, so I’d look like a “local”…

I stopped and snapped a few photos at the MLK Memorial, since I’d not been there before…

A DC Run Tour

March 4, 2012 — 2 Comments

I traded my normal, east foothills, long run route for this one today. Great weather, hardly anyone out, and the sights were pretty sweet.  I’ll post some images tomorrow.

HAPPY SUNDAY!

Training Journal – 3/4/12:

  • Current plan: 12K Training
  • Today’s session: 9 Mile Long Run @ a 10:28 pace.
  • Comments: Was a wonderful, circle run tour around the Washington DC downtown sights. I started and finished at the Marine Corps War Memorial. 11.75 miles @ 9:26 (yeah, I know, off plan, but I didn’t want to dilly dally as I have a meeting today…)

I was scrolling through the pictures on my iPhone and noticed this nice 30-second video I took of a smaller waterfall at ‘Akaka Falls State Park:

Training Journal – 2/26/12:

  • Current plan: 12K Training
  • Today’s session: 11 Mile Long Run @ 11:21
  • Comments: Nice run: 11.5 @ 10:01. At about mile 9, I caught myself smiling…I’M LOVIN’ IT!

Each day at our resort, hundreds of these Mynas wished us “Good Morning” and “Good Night.”

They seemed to like the courtyard of our tower the best!

Training Journal – 1/28/12:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: Rest
  • Comments: Rest, rest, and more rest. (…and unpacking too.)

A Groggy Response

December 2, 2011 — 2 Comments

A funny observation from the conference that I was at this week…

During a post-lunch session, I could see that a guy near me was quickly falling victim to the dreaded, full-stomach-induced, and warm-meeting-room-enhanced battle to stay awake. He was fighting valiantly, but I could tell he was losing…

Ok, I was fighting a similar battle, but “ve haf vays of staying avake!” That said, slapping myself repeatedly and making those “nwah! nwah! nwah!” noises from Caddyshack does tend to disrupt that meeting…just kidding.

Anyway, dude was being pwned by Mr. Sleep and, at one point during the presentation, the speaker said something rhetorical like, “…and anyone who has had that happen to them, please raise your hand.”

Dude’s hand went up!

Not up all the way, but he was conscious enough to stop himself at the midpoint and see that he was about to be severely embarrassed and possibly admit to something unfavorable. He’d already been “outed” as a victim of post-lunch-full-stomach-sleep syndrome to everyone around him, that single action would have expanded the audience exponentially (or existentially, if you read my post from the other day.)

I tried not to laugh too loud – or at all – just in case I found myself in a similar situation later in the afternoon.

Oh, one final observation: It’s amazing how one can easily fall asleep during a meeting, yet lie wide awake later that evening in bed. Oh, the joys and travails of traveling between time zones…

Peace out! Have a great weekend!

We visited the “Happiest Place on Earth” last weekend.

We didn’t see any of these characters:

But we did see these:
