Archives For November 30, 1999

I’m trying something new today by using the poll feature to gauge what people think on a few things.  I may do this each Tuesday for variety in my posts.

If you’d like to clarify your response (though it won’t be necessarily anonymous), feel free to comment below!

Question #1 is based on a forwarded email my wife and I recently received. Continue Reading…

Like most, I take the standard touristy-type photos when I go somewhere.  I think it’s required somewhere – we wouldn’t be good tourists if we didn’t.  That said, I also tend to snap photos of artsy/abstract things, stuff that amuses me, or prompts me to think or appreciate.  (Well, at least I try.)

I was looking through some of the photos I snapped while we were in Monterey last weekend and noticed one from Sunday evening (taken about 9pm):

To most, this photo would seem odd, weird, or a waste of a shot.  To me, it captured a moment to which I could assign a single word to:

“What’s HE Eating?”

January 28, 2011 — 3 Comments

So I’ve been on a diet for the last year and blogged about it a few weeks ago.  Anyway, I’ve lost about 75 pounds and, well, people are noticing…

I was in the cafeteria today getting my lunch (they have an AMAZING salad bar where I work) and noticed this woman doing the “round-the-stations” loop that many of us do when we go to a cafeteria and are trying to decide what to eat.  She saw me and said, “Let’s see what HE’S eating!”

I was making a salad and joked about how boring my salads were.  You see, being a creature of habit, I usually make the same salad: lettuce (of course), chicken breast, celery, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, edamame, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, and light ranch dressing.  For excitement, I sometimes swap red and yellow bell peppers.

[insert sound of crickets chirping]

Anyway, when I got back to my office, I recalled that the Lose It website allows you to see what your “favorite foods” have been for various periods of your daily food logs.  So, what is my most “favorite” food I’ve eaten for the past year?  To paraphrase the woman from the cafeteria, “What’s HE [been] Eating?”

[insert sound of drum roll]

Twenty-four years ago today, I married my best friend!

Love you, babe!

Here’s to many, many more!

Today’s post prompt on “The Daily Post at WordPress.com” was:

Do you believe everything happens for a reason? Why or why not?

My answer:

This is an interesting question.  One whose answer is generally either formed or influenced by the circumstances in our life or a predisposed and faith-based belief one holds.  For me, Continue Reading…

Staying Focused

January 7, 2011 — Leave a comment

Today’s post prompt on “The Daily Post at WordPress.com” was:

How do you stay focused on a task or activity?

My Answer

[I dont’ know about you, but when I hear the word “focus” my mind immediately goes to the Karate Kid and I hear Mr. Miyagi pronouncing it…thus the image.  Anyway…]

It’s weird, but I stay focused by being slightly out of focus.  Let me explain.

I can’t get no

December 21, 2010 — Leave a comment

There’s been a lot rattling around in my mind lately, but this stupid song somehow got stuck during lunch:

I can’t get no satisfaction,
I can’t get no satisfaction.
‘Cause I try and I try and I try and I try.
I can’t get no, I can’t get no.

Contrast that with…

Momma Loves Them Too

October 29, 2010 — Leave a comment

A few weekends ago, Karen and I spent some time at Disneyland (WooHoo!). At one point, after walking around and standing in lines for about half of our 14-hour shift, we took a break, found a bench, and people watched…another fun activity to do at the park. [sometimes when i’m doing this, i wonder who is watching me and what are they observing, thinking, or saying. anyway…]

At one point, Karen made an observation that came to mind yesterday as I was talking with someone. As I recall, in effect she said:

On My Mind

September 6, 2010 — 6 Comments

Music is a big part of who I am.  The two songs below are resonating in me right now as my dad and step-mom died in a car accident over the weekend.

We are still grappling with it all, but the certainty is:

  • God is faithful, His ways are higher than mine, and (not but) I will worship Him in His graciousness and sovereignty.
  • Jesus wept, so we weep.  Jesus grieved, so we grieve; though differently than those without hope given by God.
  • My dad, my step-mom, and my mom (who went to be with Jesus a few years ago) are all worshiping Jesus with perfect and whole bodies.
  • One day, I and my family will stand beside them and worship Jesus together again.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Blessed Be Your name [song story]:

Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away, You give and take away
My heart will choose to say, Lord, blessed be Your name

Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your glorious name

Joy [story behind the song]
