Archives For November 30, 1999

August was another solid month of training – mixing road and trail running and cycling on Mondays [a spread of 44% road, 14% trail, and 42% bike.] ; Bike percentage was up this month as I took a few extra days off from running after July’s San Francisco Marathon – First Half.

August was also the start of my training program for the Honolulu Marathon in December (info below) and my first trail run (info below.)

As far as new equipment, the big one was buying a road bike – even though I technically only got in one ride it in August. ; I’m loving it, but am still a committed runner first…though cycling is a nice break. ; I can eventually see myself increasing the cycling miles and maybe adding swimming to the mix – though I won’t say when yet, too many other goals on the horizon! ; I did pick up a North Face Better Than Naked tech shirt that was on sale at the Boulder Running Company when I was in Boulder. ; I wore it on the Crystal Springs Trail Run and really liked it. ; I have so many tech shirts though, not sure I’ll pick up any others…

I did have to travel to Boulder, CO; but kept on schedule, doing a group of three, early morning runs along the Boulder Creek Path. ; It was really nice and I was determined to NOT get off my Marathon Training plan on the first week!

Anyway, here are the stats for the month that was August 2012:

Reminder

September 4, 2012 — 2 Comments

Thinking about my dad today – hard to think that it’s been two years today.

When we were going through the family memory chest after the memorial service, each of us were taking various reminders of him and my mom.  I took this old badge of his and have kept it in my messenger bag ever since.

My dad was a hard worker and this badge seemed to resonate with me.  I was sharing with my wife the other day how I really didn’t appreciate or grasp that trait as a kid (maybe most kids don’t.)  The fact that, quite often, he worked two jobs to provide for and support us was sadly lost on me most of the time.  What an example of responsibility, provision, and love for one’s family.

Fridge Love

September 3, 2012 — Leave a comment

I see our fridge every day – open it and probably stand in front of it too…

Today, I noticed the “fridge love” and can say that I appreciate most of the sentiment.

Guess which one is K’s?

Blinds

September 2, 2012 — Leave a comment

Let me be clear: I DO NOT like hanging blinds – Venetian, vertical, whatever. Trimming them to length, grrrrr. My wife can attest to this fact.

But, I gritted through replacing the broken verticals in our living room this evening. My “I’ll just reuse the old hanging clips” plan didn’t work; but, with the invaluable help of my wife, they are done!

BOOYAH!

Sometimes you just have one of those days where the “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all” phrase applies…

It’s funny how it often just takes and email or two to hose things up. You see, …

Still, things always get better after I talk to and hang with my wife… I’m totally looking forward to a great 3-day weekend!

[The Twilight Zone theme song plays in, then quiets to background]

[Serling stands in shadows, enters shot]

SERLING: Picture, if you will, a flashing community center message sign, faithfully sending out its important messages on a clear and crispy Tuesday morning along a deserted street.

SERLING: Next, picture a lone runner, clipping along at a veerry respectable pace with admirable form, who notices the flashing sign and is drawn to it like a moth to a bright lantern on the darkest night ever.

RUNNER [TO HIMSELF]: “Boy, that sign is bright. Are my shoulders tense? Hmm, they have a Facebook page. Midfoot, midfoot, midfoot. I wonder what kind of classes they have? No chicken wings, no chicken wings! …”

[camera quickly flashes back and forth between the message sign, our runner, and an ill-placed, three foot pile of pine needles hidden in the shadows along the deserted street]

SERLING: Finally, picture, if you will, a collision between man, information, and the seemingly innocent debris from a peaceful evergreen.

RUNNER: Whoa!!!!!

[Serling shakes his head, rolls his eyes, utters “pffffft”, and returns to shadows leaving shot]

[Theme song volume increases, then ends]
