Some new equipment …

The Stick – I looked at this for a while and finally picked one up a Sports Basement the other day. It actually works!

The Ball – Due North® Foot Rubz™ Massage Ball. I’ve had some mild discomfort on the bottom of my foot and have used a golf ball for a while. I stumbled on this and actually like it better.

Some new shoes: Saucony Kinvara 3. Today was my first run in them. I’ll write about them in a bit, but initial reaction was great. I guess you don’t know how “mature” your running shoes are until you try on a new pair…

Patio Ambiance

I worked a few projects this weekend, the more visual of which was hanging some new lights on the patio. Nice ambiance!

I didn’t figure cleaning the dryer exhaust was photo-worthy…

Training Program(s):

  • Still using a plan I made using a combination of the Runner’s World Smart Coach app with pace adjustments using the McMillan Running Calculator: Weekly mileage: 26-30 miles a week – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Weekday sessions ranged in distance from 5 to 8 miles, with the weekend session being the “long run” day at 10 to 14 miles. The plan integrates Easy Runs, Tempo Runs, Speed Runs, and hill workouts.
  • I added a cycling session on Mondays this month to mix things up.  It definitely works slightly different muscles…I did feel it.

Training Journal – 6/1/12:

  • Current plan: Half-marathon program
  • Today’s session: 5 mi at race pace (8:22)
  • Comments: I did 5.26 @ 8:04

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you;
he will never let the righteous be shaken.

– Psalm 55:22

I read this today…so many aspects to chew on:

  • Cast: to throw or hurl.  I like this – God doesn’t need us to gingerly surrender.
  • On: so as to be attached to.  Such a departure from the far away or unapproachable description that is so wrongly assigned to God. This is up close and personal!
  • Will: not may or might!
  • Never: a powerful state. We often throw this word around lightly…”you never” or “we never”
  • Shaken: a difficult one. It’s quite possible that my definition of this word is different than God’s.  Maybe I underestimate myself in comparison to what God sees me capable of handling.

Training Journal – 5/31/12:

  • Current plan: Half-marathon program
  • Today’s session: 6 mi Easy Run @ 9:19
  • Comments: I did 6.5 @ 8:32. While running, I thought about the fact that I was supposed to be at a 9:19 pace. I know I need to practice that pace thing, but I get in the mode… Maybe I need to re-assess training pace.

1.9 lbs of goodness – I guess a full two pounds would be too much goodness…

Training Journal – 5/30/12:

  • Current plan: Half-marathon program
  • Today’s session: 5 mi Tempo Run, core 3 @ 8:22
  • Comments: My leg is still a bit tender, but I did 5.25 @ 8:37 – with the core, tempo miles at 8:25, 8:16, & 8:04.

Oh yeah it is!

Training Journal – 5/29/12:

  • Current plan: Half-marathon program
  • Today’s session: 4 mi Easy Run @ 9:19
  • Comments: I just wasn’t feeling it this morning – it felt like I had a muscle pull or pinched nerve in my leg – so I cut the run short and but still gritted out 3.58 @ 9:14. It worked itself out as the day progressed.

…and gratitude.

Training Journal – 5/28/12:

  • Current plan: Half-marathon program
  • Today’s session: Cross Train: Bike Ride
  • Comments: 12.2 mi in 58.24 min @ 12.6 mph – tomorrow, back to running!

Near Bonk

May 27, 2012 — Leave a comment

This morning’s two-hour, long run was a near-bonk one.

I know better than to not properly pre-fuel for a longer race, long training runs should be no different. I goofed, didn’t fuel, gritted it out, and finished – but it wasn’t pretty.

Note to self: Plan ahead D, plan ahead.
