A Status Re-Posted

February 20, 2012 — Leave a comment

This is a portion of what a friend posted to her FB wall yesterday morning at about 7:30:

“…everyone could use a prayer or two. …share this status to give a prayer of support to all those who have family problems, struggles, worries, and just need to know that someone cares. Do it for all of us for no one is immune.”

This morning I heard that her husband suddenly passed away yesterday afternoon.

Hurting and praying for her and her family.

I normally don’t re-post things.  This one’s up on my wall now…

Training Journal – 2/20/12:

  • Current plan: 12K Training
  • Today’s session: Rest
  • Comments: Slept in, had our normal Saturday McD’s breakfast (skipped since I had a run), worked in the yard, and basically will chill this evening – oh, and work on taxes…

Good one…

BTW, there is some science behind the n-second rule…n being 60 versus 5!

Indicators

February 16, 2012 — Leave a comment

This morning, there was a nice 5-7 mph breeze that accompanied the ~44 degree temp on my run. No complaints, just an observation…

Anyway, as I was running, it dawned on me: without looking at my watch, I had some natural “level of effort” indicators moving around me: leaves

  • Leaves blowing with me = easier or lower level of effort
  • Leaves blowing at me = increased or higher level of effort

It got me thinking: too often we are oblivious to – or outright ignore – the “indicators” life presents us.

Indicators that tell us:

  • Press on
  • Slow down
  • Stop.  Just stop
  • Use caution
  • Stop talking and just listen
  • Say something
  • Change directions
  • Pick up the pace
  • Don’t do that again
  • …and many, many more

NOTE TO SELF:
Don’t become too oblivious to – or outright ignore – life’s indicators!
[Also, blowing leaves can be a great illustrative reminder.  That said, thoughtfully plan to keep the leaves blowing “with you” during the second half of a longer run.]

Training Journal – 2/16/12:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: 5 mile tempo run @9:50
  • Comments: Good run. Another clear and brisk morning. Tempo was off plan, but it felt right: 9:10

So sad.

Today is a rest day, but I’ll wear on tomorrow’s long run:

Interactions

Read this today.  Pretty clear guidance on interactions … though often a challenge:

Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers. Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters.

– 1 Timothy 5:1, 2 (NLT)

Tired

February 3, 2012 — Leave a comment

Call it the “post-vacation blues”, exhaustion, or whatever, I simply seem to be more tired from one week back in the office than six days of activity in Hawaii.

A return to the Islands might
be a prescribed remedy…

…and possibly a weekend!

Training Journal – 2/3/12:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: 6 Mile Easy Run @ 9:55
  • Comments: Another day with the “pace abiding” goal: planned was 9:55, achieved was 9:16 (Oh well.)  I did have negative splits and a sub-60 minute 10K!  [I also discovered myself humming “smooth” at least five times during the run!]

Yep Yep

  • Comments: Nice run back in my own environment.  I do miss running in warmer weather though…only a few months until we have that here on the mainland!

Used to…

So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality.

Colossians 2:16-17 NLT

I used to do this.

A lot.

So wrong, so wrong.

Training Journal – 1/26/12:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: 6 mile tempo run @ 9:50
  • Comments: The 6 mile tempo run turned into a half marathon tempo run this being my final vacation/run day on the Big Island. I did try and follow the 9:50 timing though. My pinky toe has a gnarly blister – my sock must have turned…

Two Five

Twenty-five years ago, I married my best friend…what a wonderful adventure we started and continue each blissful day!

We’re not experts, but learn something new each day of the journey – about each other, relying on God, and so much more.

Karen, I love you so much!
