Bro Run

My brother is visiting for a few days and we went out for a post-dinner 5k run. It was nice to do a leisurely run and talk…all leading to Sunday’s Bay to Breakers.

WooHoo!

  • Current plan: Half-marathon program
  • Today’s session: 5 mi Tempo Run @ 8:22
  • Comments: Wasn’t sure about doing a tempo, but things went pretty well.  I did 5.13 @ 8:09 overall.  The tempo miles (2-4) were at: 7:54, 7:45, & 7:55.  Also, today I concentrated on landing mid-foot – not sure how to validate that though.

I Crossed

In my revised half marathon training program, on Mondays I’m changing things up with a cross training/bike day.

NOTE: I haven’t ridden a bike in a few years, so I wasn’t sure what to expect…

I dusted off the bike last night, inflated the tires, located my helmet, and went for a 1 mile test ride. It felt pretty good, so this morning was a “GO” (it’s true, you don’t forget.)

I checked out routes last night and planned an 8-mile loop course, hoping to cover in 45 minutes. At about mile 7.5 this morning, I was feeling good and still had about 10 minutes on the ride, so I extended to 10 miles – ending up with 10.2 in 45.3 minutes @ an average speed of 13.4 mph. Overall a good morning workout.  I’m not sure I’ll do more than Mondays…maybe at some point.

One item noted for next time – it’s cooler on the bike than running: next time, I’ll grab a windbreaker.

Giddy – up!

One Down…

…two to go.

Training Journal – 5/13/12:

  • Current plan: Half-marathon program
  • Today’s session: 8-Mile Long Run @ 9:19
  • Comments: Nice run. Back to building a base from two half marathons  in seven days and then a lighter week. I went ahead and did my 11 mile route (11.2 @ 9:08) and can tell I’ve been on a lighter training schedule for a while…legs are tight this afternoon.  BUT: “I’ll be baaaack!”

Saw this in a tweet today:

For all, change is difficult. And for all, change is mandatory.”

Towpath Run 2

Question:  You finish your meetings a little bit early than planned and need to drive to Newark for the night before catching an early AM flight home. What to do, what to do?

Answer: Run another 10k on the Delaware and Raritan Canal Towpath – this time heading north from the Millstone Aqueduct.  So much better than running on the hotel treadmill!

Very nice run – not as muggy today and a little breezy.  I think I could get into trail running…

Towpath Run

I’m on a short business trip to Princeton, NJ and squeezed in a quick run this evening after work.

I did an out and back on the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath, starting/finishing at the Millstone Aqueduct entrace at Lake Carnegie.

Weather-wise, it was a slightly muggy, 70 degrees with overcast skies. It had rained the night before and this morning, so the path was damp with occational puddles, but it was a nice run.  This was my first run after three days of post-half marathon rest. I’m still a bit stiff (sitting with some ice as I write this), but it felt good to run.

As is the case, I forgot to take photos along the way, so these are some I shot after the run:
