Training Journal – 8/24/12:
Do you play any of these? I sometimes use a dirt spot on my windshield as the sight from a 120mm gun from an M1A2 Abrams…he, he.

A few things from my day:
Training Journal – 8/22/12:
This will be in front of me at least five days a week for the next 16 weeks…
I guess I could set it as my iPad wallpaper…
…nah, that would just be obsessing.
Training Journal – 8/21/12:
this song just keeps resounding in my mind…
Anchor (Beautiful Eulogy featuring Josh Garrels)
Anchor of my soul, You sustain
When I’m in the storm You remain, good to me, good to me
When it’s a quarter past midnight, and the grey skies fade
to black. The waves splash and set me off track. So my vessel
might crash or collapse, when I’m attacked. And start
wrestling in my head with these bad memories from my past.
I’m aware of my guilt, overwhelmed and the smell of my
blood has the sharks that surround me cast under a spell.
They waited for me to fall but when I fell the water got
still. And the blood that was spilled protects me, it’s
the same blood that cleansed me. My only defense against
my nemesis, now I can rest knowing that nothing can come
against me unless the Father gives consent. Evil intentions
will not disturb God’s purposes or interfere so, who
shall I fear if my Anchor is secure? Learning to consider
it pure joy when I’m facing tribulations, praising God
instead of complaining or getting overtaken with bitterness.
Looking at the pages of the book of James and seeing
the ways that God works through the trials to make us more
mature in our faith. It reminds me how desperate I am in
this desert land, thirsty for your mercy and plan while you
give me the strength to stand. You’re my greatest pleasure,
yeah, no matter the weather I face, Lord you never forsake,
my fragile life is safe under your sovereign grace.
I got two treats today: a few of my favorite, pineapple-filled Danish cookies from Solvang and my wife, who came home a day early from a quick trip to Solvang with her parents!
Me happy! Annie too!
Training Journal – 8/18/12:
Pretty much every evening, my wife and I spend some time on our patio – or as we call it “patio time.” There’s a flock of seagulls (witty reference to 80s band intended) that hangs out at the shopping center near us, most of the time on the roof or circling around the area. Most evenings, they’re pretty vocal; and, if you close your eyes, it’s just like being at the ocean!

I believe in using races as motivators. It’s hard to keep an exercise program if you don’t have a significant goal in sight.
– Bob Greene, fitness instructor
Good one. It’s why I have a goal to run at least one race each month…
Training Journal – 8/16/12:
My wife made a Dump Cake yesterday. This slice of goodness (ok, maybe scoop is a better description) is a wonderful mix of cherry, pineapple, cake, and pecan. Yummy, yummy!
This treat also induces memories of when we were dating…
When we started dating, I worked as a security guard. One post I had for a while was at a construction site – if you’re local, it was when they converted the old outdoor mall setup to what is now Vally Fair Mall. While on the day shift, Karen would bring me lunch when she could, which often included this wonderful desert (even then, I was spoiled!) I think I gained 10 pounds in short order downing this treat.
Every time she makes a Dump Cake, ah the memories!
