c: hello, i have a request
G: yes, Child?
c: but God, You always say no
G: always?
c: often
G: often?
c: it seems like it. remember that thing and this one and that other one?
G: I remember – each one. Still, you know: I have a plan.
c: it seems the plan involves a lot of no answers for me
G: hmm. don’t forget the yeses – this one, that one, that thing.  You know, the yes and no answers, they’re all part of My plan for you…for your good.
c: i know, but still
G: you know my ways are higher, you don’t see what I see. …a request?
c: it’s for someone else – not for me – for healing.
G: Yes?
c: please heal. restore. return.
G: amen
c: amen?
G: selah
c: sali!

Training Journal – 2/29/12:

  • Current plan: 12K Training
  • Today’s session: 4 Mile Easy Run
  • Comments: Same as yesterday: Did a 6.2 instead – though a tempo run vs. a negative split test.  On the outbound leg of the out-and-back, I ran up on a skunk – which resulted in a 100 yard dash being incorporated into the tempo run!

Numba 1 Fo Timoty 3:16

I’ve been reading through the Pauline Letters and was in 1 Timothy this morning.  Sometimes I like checking passages out in other versions – Da Jesus Book (the Hawai’i Pidgin Bible) is often a favorite:

We all say dis:
Da stuff bout God, dat befo time was secret, dass importan fo real kine.

Christ wen come, wit one body jalike us.
Godʼs Spirit wen show proof dat Christ stay right.
Da angel guys from God wen see him.
His guys wen teach da diffren peopos all ova da world bout him.
Get peopo inside da world dat trus him.
God wen take him back to da awesome place inside da sky.

So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality.

Colossians 2:16-17 NLT

I used to do this.

A lot.

So wrong, so wrong.

Training Journal – 1/26/12:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: 6 mile tempo run @ 9:50
  • Comments: The 6 mile tempo run turned into a half marathon tempo run this being my final vacation/run day on the Big Island. I did try and follow the 9:50 timing though. My pinky toe has a gnarly blister – my sock must have turned…

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:22, 23

Funny how this passage is often read as a list of optional traits or on/off behaviors…

Training Journal – 1/19/12:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: 5 mile easy run
  • Comments: Good run…

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.

Ephesians 6:10

Thankful there isn’t a period after strong

  • Comments: Rest day on the schedule but, after not running for three sick days, I picked up 5 miles on the log.  Felt good!

A rough minute, hour, day, month, year can change or affect me – it does not change or affect HIM:

“…if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.”

– 2 Timothy 2:13 NIV

Thankful, so thankful for that truth.

Behold, the Lamb of God
Who takes away our sin
Behold the Lamb of God
The life and light of men
Behold the Lamb of God
Who died and rose again
Behold the Lamb of God who comes
To take away our sin

Broken hearts–behold our broken hearts
Fallen far–we need you
Behold the Lamb of God

Son of God–Emmanuel
Son of Man–we need you
Behold the Lamb
The hope of man
Behold the Lamb of God

Training Journal – 12/25/11:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: Long run – 10 miles (Call it the Inaugural “Arriaga Jingle Bell 10 Miler”
  • Comments: Merry Christmas!

I read this the other day and it hit me that we often see it incorrectly…

We read:

“…giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.”

Colossians 1:12 NIV

We often think:

“…giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has seen all the good things we do, understands the shortfalls we have, and recognizes that we are entitled and deserve to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.”

…forgive us me, oh God.

Training Journal – 12/23/11:

  • Current plan: 10K Training
  • Today’s session: Easy 5 mile run
  • Comments: Good run!  A brisk 34 degrees out, which gave me a chance to try my new beanie.  I was toasty: cold, shmold!

Behold the Lamb of God: The True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ is hands-down, my favorite Christmas album.  Period.

Mainly because of its “whole story” aspect of the telling of the Christmas story.  I wrote a post about the album back in 2009, which has been my “most clicked” post for the last 90 days.  I actually arranged the album for our church choir and wrote an accompanying drama back in 2009 as well, but had to cancel the program for various reasons…maybe someday.

If you are looking for a good and thought-provoking Christmas album, head over to iTunes and get a copy!
